Stop Sharpening Your Knives is an anthology-series founded by Sam Riviere and Jack Underwood in 2005. The ever-expanding S/S/Y/K collective counts among its ranks a range of the sharpest emerging poets, playwrights, illustrators, artists and musicians around.
S/S/Y/K has organised fringe events at the Wells Poetry Festival, impromptu soapbox readings, appeared at such prestigious events as the Troubadour readings, the Aldeburgh Poetry Festival, done a live broadcast for Resonance FM, and successfully launched the first two editions of the publication, featuring contributors hailing from such disparate locations as New York, Belfast, London, Norwich and Budapest.
In 2008, S/S/Y/K will be undertaking a series of performances of poems and music in Norwich and London – keep your eyeballs trained diligently on the Rallies page for news.
Also COMING SOON our first-ever CD release featuring a number of acts who've performed with us, and some who we wish had, and will be coerced into doing so soon...
On the way later in 2008, the third installment of the S/S/Y/K legacy, containing more poems and more art....
S/S/Y/K has big plans for the future. Maybe too big. The editors foresee a time when S/S/Y/K dominates the cultural landscape as a nation-wide platform for young poets, novelists, artists, musicians, cartoonists, film-makers and time-wasters, in the form of a quarterly, multi-media, completely full-on magazine. Who can say if they are visionaries or fools? In any case they continue to seek out contributions from all of the above-mentioned practices.
O reader, keep your ear to the ground! S/S/Y/K's distinctive resonance will compel you to support creative acts of dubious merit, start rumours and hold questionable opinions; to believe in fiction, mess with the parameters and not consider the consequences. Help us further the cause, and sign up here.
